Student Visits

Residentials, orientation days, learning centres, excursions and individual student visits provide excellent opportunities for students to meet their teachers face to face, participate in exciting and engaging learning activities, interact with other students and be rewarded for their efforts.

Residentials

DSODE offer a comprehensive, annual Residential program. Our school is equipped with a 40 bed hostel accommodation for students to visit and undertake Residential programs for a week duration, throughout the year. Whole school Residentials catering for Pre School and Primary students and families, and years 7-12 Senior and Junior students are held once per school term. Students complete activities including curriculum based workshops with their class teachers as well as enjoying a program of social activities after school hours. Our final Residential of the year is known as Muster Camp and includes our annual school awards ceremony and the annual school swimming carnival.

A number of individual faculties conduct curriculum based Residentials to cater for students completing practical aspects of their curriculum studies, including CAPA, Languages, Technologies and VET. Residentials provide opportunity for students to complete practical course outcomes as a group and to develop social relationships with peers undertaking the same course across the state.

Excursions

The diversity of learning experiences for students at DSODE is expanded through excursions. Faculties regularly organise excursions to destinations such as Taronga Park Zoo-Western Plains, Western Plains Cultural Centre, Dubbo Regional Theatre, Wambangalang Environmental Education Centre as well as a variety of farms across to region to examine case studies in agricultural practices.

Individual Student Visits

DSODE is proud of our record in bringing quality, individualised education to students who cannot attend a face to face school. We endeavour to provide every opportunity for the students’ success.

At school: We welcome students to come and visit their teachers at our school site during normal school hours. Please contact the student’s teacher and/or year adviser in advance.

At home, school, or centres: We have a very active field service program in which teachers go out and visit students in their homes, schools, or centre. Students and parents/supervisors need to contact the student’s teacher and/or year adviser to arrange a visit.
